Cyren’s Anti-Malware technology acquired by the Icelandic IT company OK

Reykjavik, March 13th 2023

OK, a leading IT service company in Iceland, announced today that it has signed an agreement to acquire all operating assets of the Anti-Malware business from Cyren Ltd (NASDAQ: CYRN), an Israeli cybersecurity company which recently filed an insolvency application with the Tel Aviv District Court.

A new subsidiary of OK called Varist, co-owned with Cyren’s former employees, will continue to service and develop the Anti-Malware products. The technology is rooted in Iceland and has, through continuous innovation, protected customers from malware for over 30 years. In 2012, Commtouch (later named Cyren) acquired the Anti-Malware technology from its Icelandic founder, with operations and development remaining in Iceland.

Hallgrímur Th. Björnsson, CEO of Varist:
“We are proud to be able to secure the business and to rehire our talented employees. They are an inseparable part of the Anti-Malware technology and their combined knowledge and experience in cybersecurity amounts to over 250 years. With the acquisition and backing of OK we will be able to continue to deliver best in class detection efficacy and further develop our products to accommodate the increasing requirements of the market.”
